GETTING ON THE CLOUD

Ladder-on-CloudPROBLEM

You have a ton of stuff on your computer and nowhere to be found when you need them. For example, when you are losing an argument with your neocon friend. It would be convenient to carry them with you.

SOLUTION

The whole point of sketching is to eventually have them on your mobile device. But have can you be in two places at once? The answer of course is to put your important stuff out in the Cloud. There are a number of services and different formats.

DISCUSSION

Cloud Storage is simply a central hard drive that you can access from any of your mobile devices or computers. They come in different flavors and run on different machines. But the first steps are the same.

STEPS

Cloud Storage is simply a central hard drive that you can access from any of your mobile devices or computers. They come in different flavors and run on different machines. But the first steps are the same.

  1. Take a look at the Cloud Storage that is available to you. Depending on your device, you can use iCloud, Dropbox, Box, Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, SugarSync and others. Most of these are free and easy to use.
  2. For each of your mobile devices, you need to go to your app store and load them down to your device. For example, on an iPad go to App Store. For Android, go to Google Play or Amazon App.
  3. Search for the name of the Cloud service (eg., Dropbox). Then download it.
  4. Install cloud service on your desktop and mobile device. You will register with the provider with an email address, then you’ll be able to upload documents into folders.
  5. Once you have your cloud service in place, you’re almost ready to draw right on your device.

Of course you can take a snapshot of your map and load it to your Cloud Storage. But first check out getting a drawing app to use instead.
