Where to Go?

Sometimes we simply do not know when we need to get away.  For many of us, doing the same things each day can be mind-numbing.  Breaking your habits can be the best thing to keep you fresh and energetic.  It also brings new ideas and changes your perspective on your goals and values.

You want to get away, rediscover yourself, have fun, and travel to parts unknown, but don’t know how to do this.

Figure out the general place you’d like to go first.

Before you can leave, you must know where you are going.  So, start by sitting down with your potential travelmates and figuring it out.

Questions to ask

  • What regions fascinate you?
  • What about the region attracts you?  For example, the weather, the food, the people?
  • How easy is it to get there?
  • Do you have friends that have been there before?
  • What is the weather going to be like?
  • How crowded is it going to be?
  • Is it peak season?
  • What are the first places that come to mind?
  • Why go there in the first place?

Once you determine the relative crowded-ness of the place, you will need to sort out your dates a bit.

  1. Determine where you want to go.  Think here in general terms.  That is the region, or country, not necessarily the sites to see while you are there.
  2. Make a short list of places with your travel-mates.
  3. Rank your lists and vote. Usually it will take more discussion and voting.  But keep in mind, this is all part of the fun!

By keeping your focus on where you are and where you’d like to go next, the trip becomes more spontaneous.
